Prerequisites:* | These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Applicants for the Ph.D. program must normally hold an M.Sc. degree. The one exception is listed above in bold. Candidates who hold a previous M.Sc. and who are seeking entry into our Ph.D. program must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) of not less than 3.4 out of a possible maximum of 4.0, i.e., an average between 75 and 80%. A cGPA between 3.2 and 3.4 may be considered acceptable if the last year of undergraduate training has shown a steady, marked improvement in grades in fundamental science subjects, AND if the student has performed with distinction in a Master's program. For some students, the committee may recommend acceptance into "probationary Ph.D. first year", in which case promotion to the second year of the Ph.D. is contingent upon meeting certain specific academic and research requirements, which are indicated in the letter of acceptance. For overseas graduates, the applicant's academic grades are converted in order to situate them within the standards of McGill University. |
